Eminem Essay Draft
Eminem has been a controversial character since his emergence in the 1990’s. His songs discuss the issues concerning class, family dynamics, and popular culture. Eminem’s career illustrates how one low class, down on his luck individual can take a talent and make his life better.

This poem i think is about loss. he just lost his father and is packing his tools away and he is regretting that he didn't pay more attention to the lessons his father tried to teach him while he was alive. That's what i got from it, what do you all think? Or do you think he is more saying that his father cared too much about the silly things? I don't know.
question...
is anyone else having a hard time getting the pictures to show up in the playlist? where do i get the URL from.. maybe i am doing that wrong but mine doesn't want to work. Grrg
"The Storm"
I thought this story was slightly confusing. I felt like it should end with a big bang. However, it ended very calmly with everyone content in their messed up lives. Perhaps that was the irony of the story. Also I felt like their was more significance to Bibi than I was picking up on. Any thoughts?
The Story of an Hour
I love the irony of this story. I love how Louise comes to life when learning of her husband's death and then at the end they say it was the joy of seeing him that killed her. Rather, I think it was heart break and shock that killed her. In a time where women were to serve man, this story exemplifies the strain it put on women who did not want to fit the norm. This story makes me wander what Chopin's stance on monogamy was? I don't think she was such a fan.
Opinions needed...
So I was thinking about my playlist and I was contemplating doing it on "Baby" from the movie "Dirty Dancing." Do you all think that she is a complex character enough to do a playlist on her?
Girl at Sewing Machine
I think that this poem definitly gives insight to Leader's personal self confidence because she says how she knows this girl. I htink that she writes about this painting to reveal some of her inner workings. Just as the girl reveals some of herself through the art of sewing, Leader reveals some of herself through her poetry.
Introduction to Poetry
I am definitly one of the students that wants to tie a poem down to a chair. I never thought about it like that though until I read this poem. I think it has a lot to do with impatience. Many students don't want to take the time to let the poem speak to us. We just want the poem to be straight forward, probably because the culture we live in today is about instant gratification. I think this poem may have just taught me something though.
Back-tracking a little...
This piece by Alfredo Jaar is quite interesting. It was shown in Time Square in 1987. Jaar is orignially from Chile. This piece shows how even the term "America" is subjective. The fact that it was allowed to be displayed in such a public sphere illustrates what the United States really represents.

"Traveling through the Dark"
This poem was really interesting. He says he pushes the doe into the river because it is best for them all. It seems that he has little faith in the world and thought that letting the fawn live would just lead to more pain. At the beginning of the poem though he says he does not want any more dead by leaving the doe in the road. It seems the beginning and the end of this poem conflict.
