Essay Ideas
So, I am thinking about doing my essay on the band Cake. Anyone heard of them? Two of their songs in particular ("Long line of Cars" and "Comfort Eagle") do a pretty good job(at least i think) of capturing certain aspects of american society.
Any opinions?
White Elephant
So I spent some time looking up any symbolism between elephants and fertility but I couldn't find anything. But, I took a look at the story again after lecture. I found it interesting that they were at the train station and towards the end the "American" gets up to take the girl's luggage while she stays there. I think that might back up what we said in class about the guy not being the one for the woman and her moving on.
Rocky Balboa- what do you think?
Hello everybody,
So im thinking about doing my assignment on Rocky Balboa. His life is kind of a roller coaster (if you've seen them all). Does this sound a little cheesy? Let me know what you guys think.
To be of use-Marge Piercy
As I see it:
I think that this poem is trying to display the sense of pride that the author feels is appropriate for "traditional laborious tasks." As these traditional tasks (farming, factory work) are quickly dissipating, there has been a loss of both understanding and appreciation for the process in which things are created. As the US moves into a more global economy where cheap labor in other countries prove more profitable, our consumer economy will continue to lose touch with the traditionally industrial economy that the author writes about.
Introduction to Poetry
I think that the author is trying, in a poem, to teach how to understand poetry at its best. Rather than dissecting the content for literary devices, one should try to "walk inside the poem's room" and understand it for its true meaning.
I like it.
