When I have fears that I may cease to be

When I have fears that I may cease to be

This collage is of John Keats's poem, When I have fears that I may cease to be. It is about the narrator's fear that he will die before he gets the chance to write all of the poetry he wants to write along with the chance to marry the girl he loves. The border on the left side represents his desire to marry his love and his fear of losing it. The background is a picture of Keats. The pen and paper represent his desire to write poetry and the words written on the paper are of this poem.

When I have fears that I may cease to be

When I have fears that I may cease to be
Before my pen has glean'd my teeming brain
Before high piled books, in charactry,
Hold like rich garners the full ripen'd grain;
When I behold, upon the night's starr'd face,
Huge cloudy symbols of a high romance,
And think that I may never live to trace
Their shadows, with the magic hand of chance;
And when I feel, fair creature of an hour,
That I shall never look upon thee more,
Never have relish in the fairy power
Of unreflecting love; - then on the shore
Of the wide world I stand alone, and think
Till love and fame to nothingness do sink.

Feedback

I think my only issue with the collage is that its too simple. Sometimes simple is good but this could also look like its too simple in the sense that it looked too easy. I like how you put down the poem on the parchment. Also, the background photo is almost not visible.

Collage Feedback

Great choice of a poem. I also wonder about the level of visibility of the poet. Also the elements on the right. I get the wedding imagery, but perhaps some gesture to the dissolution alluded to in the poem. Maybe the faded poet does that, but it is hard to tell. I guess, I would say it might be worth thinking about the elements in the image first, and then considering ways of emphasizing pieces that complement the text of the poem, which I like.

Luv the Concept

This collage is very interesting, but I feel as though there's too much contrast between the panel and the rest of the image. Moreover, I would like to see the poet a little more clearly. I absolutely love the pen and paper idea. All in all, great concept!
