What is your current favorite print text and what makes it worth a look?

I think my favorite print text right now would be 'Never Let Me Go' by Kazuo Ishiguro. I am particularly interested in the post-human questions raised in this book, which Ishiguro does a brilliant job of not directly answering for the reader. I found it fascinating, powerful, and tragically relevant.

What is your current favorite non-print text and what makes it worth a look?

After an introduction to folklore last semester where "text" came to be a word to describe anything, physical or otherwise, that could be "read" as an expression of someone else' identity or group belonging, I was having trouble coming up with a precise definition of a "non-print text." After much deep thought, I decided I had been over-thinking it all, and realized that I should probably just go with the CD that's spinning in my car right now: Eric Clapton "Unplugged." This is one of those albums to which I never tire of listening.

What is the best part of being a student of English?

The freedom to explore a wide range of ideas, philosophies, discourses, and expressive forms that may challenge or build on one another as we develop a body of knowledge that allows us to better understand ourselves and our experience.
