Chapter 18 Art

I enjoyed looking at the artwork within chapter 18. I especially liked the ones from Thomas Birch, Thomas Cole and Asher Durand. They all are beautifully done and echo the sentiments that were popular at the times. It was good to see that Cole was able to expand on his ideals after traveling and painted landscapes of Europe even though literary figures of the time called for a break in European allegiances. He was able to paint with the same style as the Hudson River School.

His character could always be seen with a cigarette in his hand. Also the fedora is a trademark that signifies his character's profession as a private detective. The quote is one of his famous lines in the movie.
