Sharon Olds' The Race - Revised Collage
Posted July 25th, 2007 by Wiley SmithHere's my revised version of the collage for Sharon Olds' poem The Race. I worked on making the image flow a little more smoothly, most of the changes being the placement of things. Here's the original version, which has all of the image sources; no new images in this one.

Character Collage: Blanche Dubois
Posted July 15th, 2007 by Windsor ThorntonI chose to represent the character Blanche DuBois of A Streetcar Named Desire. Blanche is a character who constantly strives to hide the truth. Blanche would like for people to believe she is wealthy, while in truth her family has recently gone broke and lost everything, including the family estate Belle Reve. She lost her young husband, whom she discovered to be a friend of Dorothy (a homosexual), to suicide. To top it off, Blanche has a bad alcohol problem. Blanche tries to hide all of these things with a façade of class and beauty, when in fact she is an aging tramp.

Poem Collage: "The Filling Station"
Posted July 15th, 2007 by Windsor ThorntonElizabeth Bishop's "The Filling Station" is a poem that expresses the idea that everyone is loved by someone. This filling station is filthy and made black with grease—so oily that if someone were to light a match, the whole place would be in instant ruins. The only color comes from a stack of old comic books. Though the father and the pack of sons are dirty, oily, gas-station attendants, someone loves them. That someone puts effort into bringing a little beauty and comfort to their otherwise filthy environment.

Scarlet Letter- Hester Prynne: The Adulterer
Posted July 8th, 2007 by txktreyHester Prynne is the female protagonist of the book Scarlett Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne. A patch of fabric in the shape of an “A,” that she must wear at all time signifies Hester's affair with a Puritan minister named Dimmesdale, while her true husband was overseas. Her affair led to a child out of wedlock and she had a young daughter by the name of Pearl to further make known her mishap. Hester must deal with the shame and scorn of bearing this Scarlet "A" and deal with the tribulations of this ultra conservative town and the controversy she has caused.
