Before this assignment, I had always been able to quote certain lines of Emily Dickison's poetry, those lines which are most well-known and easy to interpret. However, through doing this project I have certainly realized that there are so much more profound aspects to her poetry that are often overlooked, simply because of the abstract language that she uses. It can tend to frustrate the reader and cause him to lose attention. If you actually break up the poems phrase by phrase, and in some cases word by word, it is possible to extract meaning that is much more conceivable to modern-day readers. Using wiki to explore the poems was extremely helpful in my interpretations, because it allowed me to freely build upon the work of others. As the saying goes, two heads work better than one, well certainly 15 heads work better than one, and it is interesting to see other people's interpretations of certain parts that never would have occurred to me in the first place, yet inspires further interpretation on my part.
