Poem Collage
I took so much time on the first collage project, that I did not even have time to start the second one by the time that we had started the annotation assignment. However, I have been working on this collage as the semester went on, and I tried to incorporate what I had learned from the first one into it. I chose to do Sonnet 73, by William Shakespeare. At first, it was hard to interpret what Shakespeare was trying to convey with the various images he presented. However, it seems like he is dealing the theme of time, with respect to departure from youth and eventually arriving at death. For the background, I chose a winter sunset and added on the last few leaves that would be falling from the trees. Also, I used the opacity tool to fade out a clock around the entire collage. Next I looked for images that represented retreat. I was trying to convey this with the birds flying away and the moon coming on to represent the passing of the day. Next I chose to put in an old, worn down, abandoned church with lit candles leading up to it. I thought the church would both symbolize the physical effects of aging and also relate to the state of death.
