Basically, after reading the graphic novel for Watchmen, I am no longer surprised why it was not successful in theaters. The way the novel ends leads me to believe that it was never set up for a movie format. If any movie wishes to stay true to the original then it is going to have to have the novels ending. I believe that they way Adrian teleported the monster to stop a war will not go over well in theaters. Movie goers will feel cheated that they were robbed of the action. Throughout the whole graphic novel, the suspense is building for this inevitable war with the Russians. In the graphic novel form, the ending is ok because it is creative and unique. However, for movie goers I feel that unless they are happy with the ending, they will be very disappointed for having shucked out 10 bucks to see it

Movie
I'm not sure if I respect the movie as much as I respect the book. I feel like a lot was lost. It was just a superhero movie to me, but it definitely looked good. I was super impressed with the way everything came out.
books are always better than
books are always better than the movies, it's just a fact of life.
The Movie
I agree that it is very hard to portray the ending, true to the way it was written, on screen. I think that it is just too convoluted and twisting a plot to be able to explain it all to the audience without some 30 min soliloquy by Ozymandious. Yes, the ending is creative and unique, but it is, literally, out of this world. I think its asking too much of a moviegoer to be able to wrap their heads around Ozymandioius' plot in that short period of time.
However, the biggest problem I have with the movie is that it focuses the conflict at the end of the movie on John. Dr. Manhattan is the one who gets blamed for the whole event, not some outerspace alien. I didnt like kind of feeling it gave the viewer that John was forced off of earth because of something he didnt do. John left on his own accord and in a pretty enigmatic fashion. The fact that one of the critical aspects of the entire movie (Veidts plot to unite the world) is so drastically changed, is in my opinion, a blow against the integrity of the film.
