This is my final portfolio, including my playlist, voicemail, podcast, picture collages, mashup, video collage, blog postings, and reflections on the portfolio and class.

I. Playlist: "The Tale of Sir Diluculo"
This was the first assignment for this course, so I was very excited about it as I haven't had a course/project like this before. I first spent a couple of days trying to decide what to write about. I was going to do one about relationships (especially since I'd just been through one, start to finish), but I proposed this to my friend, and he said that that was too cliche. So, I tried to think of something quite original, and I believe I did. This playlist documents the life of a medieval English knight, named Diluculo, and it tells his tale from his birth to training to the battle of his life.

I say "Holiday" traditions because I don't know if everyone celebrates Christmas, but I'm still interested in your Holiday traditions.

Personally, I do celebrate Christmas, and there's almost an unspoken regime that my family follows during this holiday season, haha. (Man, this is quite a long posting, but maybe you'll be able to relate to something in it).

First of all, pre-Christmas, during the month of December, we'd pull all the decorations out of the attic and set them up, listen to Christmas music, and watch 25 Days of Christmas and other Christmas movies on TV. (Do you remember the ones you grew up on? The claymation ones - Rudolph, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, etc). We'd also always go to a tree farm as a family to cut down our own tree. (Dad and we three boys would take turns with the saw while my mom recorded and took pictures. Right before it was ready to fall, we'd all get under the tree, holding the saw, and pose for a picture: "Three...Two...One...TIMBER!") Then we'd bring it home and spend hours decorating it with new ornaments and old nostalgic ornaments. (My brothers and I always took turns picking out ornaments to hang, and we'd always grab our favorites (mine were a Ninja Turles one, Power Rangers, a train that was a puzzle, a squirrel on a lightpost, and other random things. We also each hung up our own ornaments that we'd made in the past (like the popsicle-stick star in kindergarten and such) and personalized ones (we had ornaments with our names on them, like reindeer, and soccer balls, etc)). We also invented a game with little plastic candy-cane decorations where we'd go across the room and flick them at the tree, trying to make them hang there (one point if it caught on the light strand, two for a branch, three for an ornament).

I decided to do my collage on one of my favorite authors Michael Crichton. He is an incredible author of scientific fiction and "techno-thriller" novels such as Jurassic Park, Sphere, Timeline, and Prey. He graduated from Harvard Medical school with an MD but pursued a career as an author and movie director. To find out more about this incredible man, visit theMichael Crichton website or Michael Crichton on Wikipeida.

Hello all. Here is my mashup:

Bush is Captain Planet

To give you a little background and info:
I had no idea what to do my project on, so I decided to take the easy route...and bash on the government. (I'm not saying they're doing a bad job right now, but this was just the first thing that came to mind).

Ok, so we all remember the show Captain Planet, right? If not, to quote the beginning of the show, "Our world is in peril. Gaia, the spirit of the Earth can no longer stand the terrible destruction plaguing our planet. She sends five magic rings to five special young people..." These youngsters have the power of Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, and Heart. The use these powers to fight pollution and etc. They can combine their powers and summon Captain Planet, a superhero who advocates and fights for a clean Earth.

So it finally happened: Bunting has been fired. [I'm waiting for you to stop screaming your head off in elation...]

[Are you quite finished?]
It was front page on today's (Monday, October 23, 2006) Daily Tar Heel. If you didn't happen to pick one up, check out the Daily Tar Heel Website. (If today is not Monday, October 23rd, it won't be on the homepage. Here is the article: "Bunting Bagged")

My second collage is of my playlist "The Tale of Sir Diluculo" which documents the life of a knight in medieval England who eventually leads his kingdom in a huge war, culminating in their victory.

There are many images laid upon one another in this collage. The two main background images (very faint) are of hills and of a forest, indicating the setting of the playlist, and especially the great battle. The castle in the upper left just further indicates the setting of medieval England, and the castle which Diluculo represents. The main images in the center show a sword shrouded in and emitting green light, representing the power of the Emerald Sword which Diluculo uses to win the war. The knight behind that sword is posed in attack position, displaying the heroic Diluculo. The bottom left depicts the actual battle. The right side is a sword in the ground whose hilt is in a setting sun, indicating that the battle is finished. However, this same set of images can be seen as a sword and a rising sun, portraying the end of the playlist (the last song being "Dawn over a New World" by Rhapsody) where the knights ride off, feeling that it is their duty to scour the land and eliminate all evil forces so everyone can live in peace.

My first collage is of the song "One Step Closer" by Linkin Park. In this song, the speaker essentially declares (through a lot of angry yelling) that the things that a certain other person does and says to him upset and enrage him, slowly pushing him one step closer to the edge...

The anger in this song is displayed through the overall darkness of the collage. The background storm clouds, tumultuous sea, and spiraling vortex further show his agony and rage. The lightning from the eye to the left illuminate a standing figure, showing the determination that the speaker has to express his feelings. The cliffs represent going one step closer; they eventually fade into the screaming face, the over feeling of the speaker.

We opted to do the voicemail exchanges instead of a podcast. We continued with our old theme of Batman/Bruce Wayne.

Batman's Messages

Here's some information that might make a few of the references more clear:

Bruce Wayne - billionaire philanthropist
Batman - vigilante of the night
Bruce Wayne = Batman
Dick Grayson - Bruce's adopted charge
Robin - sidekick to Batman
Dick Grayson = Robin
Alfred Pennyworth - Wayne's butler
Selina Kyle - an associate and on/off girlfriend of Bruce's

Bruce Wayne alias Batman. Billionaire playboy by day, vigilante of the streets by night. A busy man. Most likely he won't be there when you call, so you might get his voicemail...
