Playlist: I didn’t feel my playlist needed any revision from my midterm portfolio so I left it as it was. I am most proud of this assignment because I feel I dedicated a lot of time and effort into this project and felt that I saw some results. I feel the end product effectively tells a story and conveys a message. My playlist chronicles the journey of one man as he travels from the depths of depression. He lives in a dingy one bedroom apartment in the city. He works a 9 to 5 and lives a sheltered and secluded life. He rarely ventures outside of his apartment. He has a severe distrust of those around him, acute agro phobia and potentially schizophrenia. He lives a sad existence and suffers from extreme depression. Nothing, it seems, is working out for him; that is until a woman enters his life. With this new arrival, comes hope for the main character, hope for some normalcy, hope for some happiness, and hope for some love. The playlist and story chronicles the two’s trials and tribulations. This playlist served as a creative outlet and it was for this reason that I enjoyed this project the most. It was my hope that I would be able to do more projects like this, but in the end, most of our projects ended up resembling the playlist collages.

Our president in his element. Its a mashup of our president doing what he does best with looney tunes cartoons.

Playlist: For my playlist, I didn't change too much in the way of song selections. I merely revised the narrations and song descriptions and in some cases added some song lyrics to some song selections. I feel these additions helped give my story some needed depth and will help the reader better see the emotions and thoughts of the characters. The story and playlist depicted tell the story of a young man living in the city.

I don't know about everyone else, but this week has just been brutal. I feel as if I have a million things due and I don't have enough time do it all. I had a Spanish midterm this Tuesday, a chem test today, a paper in my political problems in Africa studies and I have more midterms coming up next week. I miss the days of high school were one messed up test didn't permanently affect your grade, the days were I didn't go to sleep at 2:00 AM only to wake up at 6:00 to finish homework. Can anyone else relate?

With the latest string of news involving Mike Foley's "relationship" with an underage page and numerous other scandals surrounding congressmen on both sides of the political spectrum, one can't help but wonder what is wrong with our government. This isn't to say that our government has ever at one time been perfect or devoid of corruption or devoid of corruption; government is a reflection of the people it governs and by that very fact is inherently flawed but recent events have me baffled. How does this administration justify the unwarranted surveillance of Americans? How is that anyone who questions our policy in iraq, our policy in the middle east, our foreign policy in general is branded "Unamerican" and in league with the "enemy." Why is it that this government continues to spend billions of dollar a month and thousands of soldiers lives on a country found to have absolutely no WMDS.

playlist collage
My collage represents my playlist in that both are very stark. The story depicted in my playlist chronicles the journey of one man, who has to pull himself out of the depths of depression and paranoia and has to try and make a life for himself. In my collage, there is a huge mass of people on a street and in the distance one can see two faces on opposite sides. The picture on the left would be that of the protagonist. The picture is very foreboding, the man depicted in it very watchful, guarded, one can't place his emotions. He watches as the world passes him by, too afraid to act, to live to love.

song collage
Fake Plastic Trees-Radiohead This song upon first inspection could easily seem like a random mishmash of images and words that really don’t say anything but if one is to closely sit and listen and read the lyrics, one might find a lot of depth and meaning. This song speaks of the masks we wear. We as people attempt to hide behind our facades. This song says to me at least that we as a people need to let our guards down and learn to just live and love. Too often, we are in relationships which are meaningless, that have “fake plastic love.” We try to delude ourselves into believing that they are real. This song is telling us to live to our full potential.

Kristen and I worked on our project together but decided for the sake of time to split our project into two parts. Our project bascially dealt with the roommate experience and how different people are affected and changed by the roommate experience. |
