Last Friday I was enjoying a nice trail run with one of my friends when all of a sudden my left foot collapsed under me. I cried out in pain and hopped onto my right foot as my left ankle immediately began to swell. Ahhh it hurt so badly. I had to limp a mile back to dorm and put ice on my throbbing ankle. Now, I've run cross country and track for six years so I've had my fair share of sprained ankles and typical running injuries but nothing compared to this purple balloon that my ankle had become. Lucky for me, my roommate is a sports medicine major so I didn't have to endure a trip to student health and pay money to get my ankle wrapped. She wrapped it up for me, gave me an anti-inflamatory pain killer, and even provided me with crutches. The thing that sucks though is that now, almost a week later, my heel is still a little purple and the top of my ankle is still swollen. It doesn't hurt nearly as bad as it did but it definitely doesn't feel good when I have to walk across campus on it. I've never really appreciated the simple joy of walking normally but now I can't think of anything I want more. |
