Ok so i was watching one of those tv series on dvd tonight and it got me thinking about the theme songs from television shows. There are always those theme songs that you will just never forget from the shows you have watched religiously. Friends anyone? Saved by the Bell? Maybe Sex & the City or Grey's Anatomy? Or even the sound of the clock in 24? I can probably hear about 3 seconds of those theme songs and recall 5 of my favorite episodes instantly. Or if i am sitting down to watch the show it can get me that much more relaxed and ready to rest for 30 minutes or an hour to watch someone else's drama (even though its fake) Anyone else know what i'm talking about or have a theme song they can relate to? Theme songs really are the best. theme songsSubmitted by Brandon Patton on September 21, 2006 - 18:36.Friends, Batman, Spiderman, Captain Planet, the Smurfs, Ninja Turtles! Everyone can remember these theme songs and the memories that they bring back are often of an innocent and happy time in our childhood. It may sound weird, but i have definately downloaded (legally of course) some of my favorite theme songs and put them on my ipod just for fun. When I'm listening to a random mix of songs with friends and one of those theme songs pops up, it just brings a smile and laugh and an "OH I TOTALLY REMEMBER THAT!" from someone who wasnt expecting it. They're Definitely the bestSubmitted by Sarah LaMorte on September 21, 2006 - 17:59.It's funny that you mentioned Friend's because that is definitely the theme song I first thought of. My sister has every season on DVD so whenever I hear the song on tv I always think of those few episodes I like the best. Others that have stuck with me over the years include Pinky and the Brain, Anamaniacs, Ninja Turtles, and like Matt I will never forget Captain Planet. Knowing these theme songs are pretty pointless but with them brings memories of those times so yea, theme songs really are the best. I understandSubmitted by Alecia Murphy on September 21, 2006 - 17:56.Especially crime shows for me because my mom and I used to watch a lot of those especially when I was younger. I can't recall my favorite episodes, but I remember the highlights. sound and memorySubmitted by Matt Koh on September 21, 2006 - 13:52.i can most definitely relate to that. i can still pretty much recite the theme from 'Captain Planet,' a show i last saw about eight years ago! don't even get me started on Pokemon, Arthur or Wishbone. These things stick with you for some reason. People say that smell is the sense with the strongest ties to memory but sound (specifically music) has got to be up there too. Jingles from radio and television ads are the same way. 1-800-54-GIANT is the number for some sort of glass company around Boston, and the only reason I remember it is because of the stupid little jingle they played on the radio during Red Sox broadcasts in the mid-nineties! |

As a child, I grew up on old school Nickelodeon and Saturday Morning Cartoons, so all those shows are permanently ingrained into my memory. It was essentially my childhood. So, when I hear these songs, I am transported back to a happy, peaceful, and less stressful time.
After that time, life got more stressful with school and all, so I didn't watch tv a lot. I watched some, but the only show I actually followed was Friends. That was my show in my teen years. (I, too, have all 10 seasons on DVD). Whenever I would have time to watch it with my mom, we always clapped the *clap, clap, clap* part. It's just some cheesy thing, but it reminds my of my time spent with her and etc.
So, yes, TV theme songs elicit many good memories and are often hot topics of conversations for those of us who like to reminisce.
So remember: "I'll be there for you..."
