I put the final touches on my playlist. Previously I was unable to find a connecton for my last section. I was able to find a connection and what I deemed to be an appropriate song. I also added a picture (of mine) at the end. The picture is of my Varsity cheerleading team from high school all huddled up outside one cold winter morning for practice. this picture is ment to depict the teamwork and sense of comradery I speak about in my playlist.

For my audio essay I went back and cut out the last section of my essay. I thought that that section didn't add anything to my project but it was just taking up space so I deleted it. Out of all the projects I liked this one the most but I also found it to be the most labor intensive. I really enjoyed conducting interviews and turning those little poieces into a bigger project. What I didn't like about the project was that it wasn't always easy to get the interviews and in such a small period of time. I probably would have enjoyed it more during the regular school year.

I really don't like audacity... It needs a manual.

This is the final essay. I have learned a lot more about drinking by doing this essay and research.

The audio essay attached is the newest version which basically just fixed up timing, sound quality and excessive music. The original audio essay was actually my favorite project because I enjoyed the interviewing aspect of it and I thought my speaking skills improved in doing it. The three playlists attached are the original, the first revision for the midterm portfolio and the second revision for this final portfolio. The paper attached is the revised and final copy of it, their are red marks to show all the changes I made. I feel that I made the paper for descriptive in certain areas while making it flow better throughout. The Chuck Norris voicemail is the same recording that Griffin, Duncan and I did in class. Even though it was a short simple assignment, I enjoyed the creativity we were allowed to use on this assignment and it made it much more enjoyable. The last attachment is the video essay which I had a friend edit for me. I tried to add transitions to some of the slides and make the pictures clearer and identical in size.

For this final playlist I went back and revised most of the statements. I was hoping to make it seem tighter and more set than it was before. In order to do this I had to change a lot of the wording. I also changed the first song into a picture thinking that it would bring out the meaning behind the playlist better than the song did.

Ethnography Essay

In the final draft of the ethnography essay a lot of editing and revising was done. I went back and make a great deal of changes as far as grammatics and punctuation went. I also added two additional interviews. One of them was another means to support the idea of why go running. The other was added to support running being a social event. I also added a different conclusion because the first draft did not have one and the second draft I did had a weak one. Therefore, I hope that this new one is better and helps to close off this paper better.

Audio Essay
4th of July

The first assignment that we focused on was the playlist assignment. To view my play list click here I had some difficulty with this project mainly because at first I did not know what topic I was going to choose. After overcoming the first hurdle I then had to think more abstractly to try and figure out how everything was connected. This was difficult for me because I had never had to think about how an Ipod was connected to coffee and other simple things like that. The thing that made this assignment difficult was mainly the fact that I had to think more abstractly than I ever had to before this assignment. I felt that this assignment was a good lead into this course it opened our minds to think about the things that we see around us. After overcoming those obstacles I found this project to be quite enjoyable. I did my project on a coffee shop. My main goal was to figure out the type of people that were at the coffee shop and what they were doing there. After turning in my initial draft I decided to return to the coffee shop to ask the people why they were at the coffee shop.

This is the same topic that I've done with my essay and audio essay. I tried to make each different and this one I focused more on individuals because I could get pictures of them easier. The video shows the same influences that I talked about and gives an accurate representation of snowboarding today.

The playlist assignment was a fun and interesting project. The biggest drawback for me was my limited scope of music. I listen to mostly country and had a hard time finding songs to fill out my playlist but I think I did ok.

By far, the hardest project the entire session was the podcast. Learning how to use the Audacity software was the hardest part of the entire project. I would have had a revised version on here for this portfolio but unfortunately my computer's hard drive decided to give up on me and I didn't have my work backed up. This meant that pulling the audacity file back into the program pulled it as one track. Sorry about that.

The most fun project this semester was the video essay. I really enjoyed having a chance and a place to inform people about Ducks Unlimited and also ejoyed being able to show that not all hunters are heartless beasts but actually care about the animals they make game.

Hey I know its a little late to be asking this but how do you post the Video Essay? When I tried to do it a message popped up saying to save it in a different format but under my Movie Maker it doesnt give me any options of how to save it.

Dear Readers;

Looking at everybody else's video I have notice that everybody had a different topic but everything was great I think that everyone put in a great amount of time to get this work done and i really think everybody done a great job and there's nothing that they can do to improve these video's that they done.

As I participated in this english class this second summer session I have really learned a lot as a student and a person. By doing all of these assignments has showed me that anything can be done also doing this have show more little things that I really need to improve on whenever it comes to writing and doing other writing assignments. The essay, the playlist and the video that we have done this year have also shown me that English is not only about writing it is alot going on in English besides writing papers everyday on different topics but writing is my weakest as a student. I know that I have a long way to go but everyday I am going to try and get better and better. Out of all the assignments we have done this summer I really like the playlist deal because that had a lot of reflection on me whenever I was young because I was a cheater because I didnt really know nothing about being in love but now I have grown up all and have experiences many things with all types of girls but right now I have found the right one and I am chilling out.

I decided to do my project on Drunk Driving.

I really didn't realize how many blogs i HADN'T posted yet. I don't know where to go to get an actual number of how many i actually have but it is not looking like the required amount of eight. I know that the number i am seeing is not counting the comments i have have left on other peoples work, but i also don't remember if that counts towards or total number of blogs. I am so confused and desperately want an A out of this class and will be pretty disappointed if i fall short because of my blog postings. But i will work on it along with the rest of my final portfolio and hopefully i come away with my desired result.

The video essay I made is titled: “Death, Imprissonment, or Freedon. The fate of the Colombian Drug Mules.”

Due to the size of the video (over 50 MB) I was not able to post it on the web. (If you are interested in the topic though, I encourage you to send me an email or contact Mr. Anderson at UNC).

This essay presents one of the international issues a country like Colombia deals with on a daily basis. Colombia is beautiful country, where the people are either very rich, or very poor. The gap in-between is very small and there are very few opportunities of economic growth for the poor.

I used fragments of the movie “María Full of Grace,” which is a movie that presents the life and journey of Colombian Drug Mules and the challenges they face on their way out of poverty and misery. It is very well done, and I strongly recommend it!

When revising the playlist project for the second time, I went with the same approach as before and checked to make sure my connections were strong. I was able to use the advice given to me by the teacher to outline the revision process. First, I decided to rethink the connections of each activity or object. I found, after much pondering, that they all seemed to have a natural flow, but the descriptions seemed to be somewhat weak. So, I went through each connection and made a few key points for each, so that it instilled the message I was trying to send to the viewer into their minds.
