PORTFOLIO

playlist

The playlist is actually my favorite assignment so far for this class. I feel that it is easier to take parts of songs and paste them and then explain why we chose that part of a song, than to have to simply put words onto paper while at the same time being able to get across the right feeling, mood, or story. The topic of my playlist was my graduation from high school and going off to college. That is something that I never really reflected on or thought too too much about, but realized how much it matters to me and how different life is now that I am away at college. I found the playlist the easiest way to express my opinions because I was not worried about run on's and other grammer mistakes, or if something sounded good enough to me. In order to edit my profile, that will be simply changing some of my texts\ explainations to better explain myself and use more real life examples.

Submitting Collage

Posted On: Tue, 2006-07-11 13:34 by iamdan

Our task for today is to submit a draft of your collage. You should also find two partners--you will comment on one another's collages after you have submitted them.

Before we get started, I'd like to discuss some aspects of interpreting images that might be helpful. We will use some sample images:

Black and White

The Waiting Room

Train Station

Next, you will need to export your image to your H drive or to your own computer as a JPEG file. Go to the File menu and select Export. Once you have exported it, use the Image option under the Create Content link to upload your image to our blog.

Math is getting so hard! The second test is Wednesday, so I'm studying really hard. I like the projects we're doing in this class. The collage assignment is really fun; tomorrow I'll see if I can get wireless internet service in the library basement. This is such a good opportunity to experiment with photography; this is just what I need to get a head start in computer technology. I'm loving this class! I think that if I can pass Precal with all the studying I'm doing then the first semester of college shouldn't be much harder. This is my last math class, so I need to pass it! I'm taking the physics of sound and music at UNCA this fall; if anybody has heard of this science please inform me.

Revised Playlist
When putting this playlist together I not only wanted high energy songs, but also songs with lyrics that I could relate to sportbiking. I chose many songs that I have heard several times because I knew I liked them and I could relate to them. Writing the commentary in between each song was very entertaining as I was able to portray ideas that I think many people may not realize about motorcycling.

Overall it made me appreciate motorcycles even more as I got more acquainted with the theme. I think it also helped me better convey my thoughts in an understandable manner and in a way where somone else can actually put themselves behind the handlebars and get a glimpse of what riding feels like. I had to really focus on my creative writing, but I think it helped me develope as an overall better writer.

My weekend...

Posted On: Mon, 2006-07-10 16:14 by smashingtokyo

Friday evening we had drumline auditions in Hill Hall. It was the start of the weekend long drumcamp in which we would prepare for the upcoming marching season and place new members in their appropriate positions on the line. It was a ton of fun, my best friends at UNC are on the Drumline and it was great getting to see them all again. There was a little drama however though.

I broke up with my ex-gf a little over a month ago. We came together through drumline, she plays bass, I play snare. We were together for about 7 months before I decided we needed to go our seperate ways. We still love each other and are very good friends, I just got a little scared when she started talking about marrying me and such. I could definitely see me spending my life with her, and it would be really good, but I just got freaked out thinking about that level of commitment, I guess most guys my age probably would. I decided I wanted to experience more, maybe more of a variety is what I'm trying to say, before I settle down. It was very difficult to explain that to her, she's a year ahead of me so she's gotten to be single a long time and was ready to find a deep commitment. It's very complicated still loving somone who you need to only be friends with so that you can experience a myriad of new things and make friends you may not have made before. I think we need to stay apart though, she was planning on not going abroad to Australia just so she wouldn't have to leave me, and now she can do that. I think that though this was a very difficult step for us, it will make us much more mature in the long run. This may sound corny, but I'm sure if it was meant to be, then we will find each other again in the future, and everything will work out perfectly.

Collage Assignment

Collage Assignment

Compose three collages.

PART 1: First compose a collage that represents an aspect of your identity. The project will revolve around two major activities: 1.) identifying images and words that make a concrete statement about your identity, and 2.) integrating those elements into a composition created using an image editor.

To get started with the first part of the assignment, you will need to reflect on your identity. Think about social groups you participate in. Consider your interests--are you a bird watcher, basketball junkie, cyclist? How do you mark yourself politically or where do you come down on social issues? How might thinking about age, gender, race, or other markers of identity shape who you are? Weigh as many dimensions of yourself and your social world as you can to develop a list of at least four characteristics you would want to emphasize in the collage.
