Video Collage Project

Posted On: Sun, 2006-07-23 22:24 by Catherine

Here is my final project!! I'm actually quite pleased with it. I'm sure there are some places that might need tweaking, but I still think I did a pretty good job. I worked pretty hard on it, and I feel like this really is a compilation of everything I've learned in this class. I did my project on Causes of Obesity.

My sources that are in the video are listed in the credits, and the sources where I just did a little research are here:

Almost done...

Posted On: Wed, 2006-07-19 22:39 by Catherine

I'm literally counting down the days until I get to go home. Who would have thought 5 1/2 weeks would be so long??

Anyways, I've finally chosen a topic for my video project. I'm going to do the causes of obesity, which goes along with the nutrition department of the School of Public Health. This project has really made me do some thinking about what I want to major in here at UNC. After looking around at all the different departments on the school's website, I've discovered that medical school actually sounds interesting (I had pledged that I wouldn't do anything medical related before hand).

My New (and much better) Podcast

Posted On: Tue, 2006-07-18 18:58 by Catherine

I have completed my new podcast, and it is SO MUCH BETTER. I'm actually quite pleased with it. It's A LOT shorter and it actually has a definite angel, and I'm not just rambling on about nothing. Now that I have an idea of what a podcast should sound like, I've been able to make this new one better and I think more interesting. It would be awesome of someone could listen to it for me. It's only about 4:15 in length now. I think it's suppose to be 5 minutes, but I I'll check with Dan. So if you have any suggestions, let me know. what i'd really like feedback on is on music. should there be more? anyways, here it is!! :-D

Two more weeks!!!

Posted On: Fri, 2006-07-14 14:49 by Catherine

I'm going home in a little less than two weeks!! yay!!! I don't think I ever want to do summer school again. I've suffered through hunger and boredom for way too long, and it's only been about 5 1/2 weeks. Not to mention I spend waaaaaay to much money (mainly on food). The best part about my experience has probably been going to church here and meeting some totally awesome friends there! In fact, we're all going to hang out tonight and then go to lunch/mall/movies tomorrow. I can't wait. Then of course, English wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I'm so glad things worked out the way they did and I got to take this class. It's been fun. Frustrating at times, but more fun. The only awful part of my summer has been going to lab everyday. Gosh, it's so boring...The other lab people are really nice and smart, and the equipment that I get to see is pretty interesting. But the actual lab that I'm observing isn't exactly exciting. Far from it, actually.

Final draft of Collage 1

Posted On: Wed, 2006-07-12 01:49 by Catherine

So I changed the DNA picture to another one of my nerdy obsessions, Final Fantasy. haha, don't ask...But thanks everyone for the feedback! I had a hard time figuring out how to make each of the pictures at the top blend together, but I think once I play around some more with the layers and masks, I can fix that for the final portfolio. I think this is how he wanted us to upload the picture...If not, well at least it's here!

Nerds Are Cool :-) Basically my main goal with the effect was to keep things soft and have that fading look to it

James Blake Playlist

This assignment was harder than what I thought it would be! It was a little hard finding that perfect song that went along with what I wanted to say. I think what made it hard was that I had to use other people's words and feelings to convey exactly what I wanted to say myself. But I enjoyed doing it because I learned how to make a link, which is something that I use outside of class on my own personal blog now. So it was a very helpful assignment. It was also an interesting way to present something that I cared about. This being the first assignment, I was expecting "Read this story and write a 3 page thematic essay..." But this was a great way for me to really express something I cared about while still learning how to communicate effectively. And the fact that it was on a topic I am interested in made me stick with it and produce a good product in the end. I think that this should always be the first assignment for future classes. It's not too difficult, and it makes for an easy transition into the class. It allows the student to express themselves to people they've never met before.
