Submitted by Chris Mathew on Tue, 2006-12-12 03:26.Haha I know this class has been over for a few days but I was studying for my intro to jazz exam and came here to see if anyone still frequented the blog. I really miss this class because it was so laid back and informal. Wow did it really fly by...already time to get ready for finals week and the end of the semester. Good luck to everyone on their exams and I hope anyone reading this has an awesome winter break!

Video Collage: The Movement
Submitted by Danielle V on Thu, 2006-12-07 07:24.This video collage was the best project I have ever done in my life. I spent so much time on this, and it actually turned out to be an audio collage along with a video collage. I had a vision in my head before I even started the project and I worked at it until it was as perfect as I had seen it in my head. I felt so moved by my own work that I had to extend it. Originally, it was only three and a half minutes long. But I extended it and added more pictures to make it six minutes long. I hope you enjoy.

Danielle's Final Portfolio: A Collection of Media Literature
Submitted by Danielle V on Thu, 2006-12-07 03:23. PortfolioThe end of the semester has come and I can say that I have really enjoyed this class. The majority of my time went towards these four major projects—the play list, the character collages, the Podcast, and the video collage. After becoming familiar with the technology that we used in class, it is much easier to revise your work and see where your work should be revised. Creating a portfolio of your work is a great way to see how you have progressed, not only as a student, but as a person. I think that each and every project that I did had a little bit of truth in it, a little bit of my own personal experiences. So here they are, fully revised and open to the world.

I. Playlist Assignment
Getting started on the playlist was very hard for me. I felt like I didn't know a wide enough variety of songs that I could actually link together to form a storyline. It took me a long time to try to figure out if I wanted to decide on the storyline first and scourge the shallow selection of songs in my mind or try to write down a few songs that I liked and try to squeeze out a plot. I ended up selecting one of my favorite stories first. After that, selecting the songs were easier than I thought. I had a good time trying to fit the events to the rose's point of view so I could feel like I had contributed more to the story. I enjoyed the assignment, and it certainly made me think about how words, lyrics, and rhythm, melody contributed to creating an atmosphere.
Final Portfolio
Submitted by Jay Steele on Thu, 2006-12-07 01:27.The first assignment, the playlist, intrigued me very much because of my great interest in music. I hope to one day work in the music business, specifically in the field of journalism. For the portfolio, I fleshed out the descriptions to give the story more depth.
The collage was another interesting assignment. I had no idea what to think when I first started, but then I realized that Jon Nobles was an incredibly fascinating character. So I decided to do my character collage about him. For the final draft, I darkened the steeple, further illustrating the role that church had in Nobles' life. I also increased the opacity of the bluebells, so as to further hide the dilapidated jail cell. I did so to convey the idea that Nobles' thoughts of his dream birth place had overgrown the memories of the death row that he had inhabited for so long. The father and daughter are still a focal point, as to demonstrate Nobles' love and yearning for his daughter. And lastly, the bright sun in the middle of the peice is intended to symbolize God calling Nobles into heaven, for he is forgiven.
Video Collage
Submitted by bjac on Thu, 2006-12-07 01:23. collagesOnce again, finding a topic for my video collage was challenging, but, being the sports fanatic that I am, I decided to go with one about my favorite sport, soccer. I was having trouble finding a soccer poem or story to explain, but a search of a couple forums found a beautiful soccer poem that could be stretched into a three minute video collage. Finding the pictures was a very rewarding process; I was in awe of some of the snapshots taken, and was glad to use the pictures in my collage. Once I found the necessary pictures, I placed them all in the respective positions and went to work. After filling in different parts of the poem and positioning the photos in just the right spots, I had only the song to find. I knew from the beginning what song that I wanted to choose; all I need to do was find it. It is the "Ole" chant, which was recorded by many different people many different times, and is uncopyrighted. (So I followed the rules.)
